'Automatic Announcements'

All of the announcements on this page were culled from a 1957 78 r.p.m. record which was presumably used as a demonstration of telephone announcements. The record was aptly named 'Automatic Announcements'

• NOLINESL.WAV (42.6Kb) 'No lines at London' - All trunks busy.
• AUTOMATI.WAV (73.3Kb) An early answering machine greeting...
• TNCHANGE.WAV (51Kb) 'The telephone number you have just dialled has been changed - please consult the directory for the new number' - self explanatory, but old.

Finally some demonstrations of recordings you might expect to hear from primordial automatic burglar alarms… The alarm would call the operator and play the announcement repeatedly.
